Mathias Hagen Solo
Through many years of playing alone in different settings (especially in churches) I have developed an interest in the saxophone as an unaccompanied solo instrument. Creating interesting and "complete" music with only one instrument can be a challenging and daunting task, but it is also very interesting to explore the possibilities that can be found within the boundaries of the instrument. I'm constantly exploring new ideas for my next solo performance. To the right you can see a concert I did in Gothenburg a few years ago. The piece is called "The Bethlehem Suite" and the idea behind it was to compose a set of musical ideas that could be used as a base for improvisation. It was also one of the first times I experimented with integrating text into my music.
